Hamrick, Carl Gray (Pete) Jr.

Carl Gray (Pete) Hamrick, Jr., of Belton, Texas, (formerly of San Saba, Texas) passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012, in Park Place Manor, Belton, Texas. Mr. Hamrick was born in San Saba on October 25, 1925, to Carl Gray Hamrick, Sr. and Maude Florence Bowers Hamrick. Pete spent his childhood in San Saba County and joined the Navy during World War II when he turned 18. He served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Mindanao.

After returning to San Saba from the service he married Natalie Gage of San Saba. They celebrated their 63 wedding anniversary October 28, 2011. They have three children; Stephen Hamrick of Fort Worth, Susan and Steve Slaughter of Belton, and Annie and Bret McCall of Belton.

Pete worked his entire life as a stock farmer, growing peanuts, wheat, hay, and maize and raising sheep and cattle all around San Saba County. Pete was known at all of the area auctions and knew cattle well. His favorite past time was gardening and growing some of the best vegetables in San Saba County!Mr. Hamrick dearly loved his children and grandchildren and never passed up any opportunity to brag about them. He loved going to his lake house at Lake Belton, and barbecuing and watching his grandchildren have fun on the lake.After Pete had a severe stoke 15 years ago, he slowed down a bit, although some of the employees at the nursing home said he was "hell on wheels"! He and his wife moved to Belton 8 years ago to be near their daughters.

Pete is survived by his wife and two daughters of Belton; his son of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Cody Hamrick of Fort Worth; Stephanie and Tim Hohertz of Stephenville; Shannon Slaughter and Matthew McCall of Belton; two brothers, Ray and Betty Hamrick and Trenton and Patsy Hamrick of San Saba; sisters-in-law, Corky Grimes of San Saba; and Betty Phillips of Masterson; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pete was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, San Saba. Services were held at the graveside on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Chappel Cemetery in San Saba County. Services were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Homes. Memorials may be left to a charity of choice.

Hardman, Wesley

Wesley "Wayne" Hardman, 75, of Brownwood, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008. He was born August 13, 1932 in the Holt Community, the son of the late Wesley and Mattie Hardman.

Wayne moved to Brownwood in 1972 from the Holt Community. He was a retired fireman for the City of Brownwood and worked a number of years for Davis-Morris Funeral Home as an assistant. Wayne worked the past five years as an assistant for Netherton Funeral Home. He was a Baptist and a member of Indian Creek Masonic Lodge #807.

Survivors include three brothers: James Hardman and wife, Frances, of Houston; Alvin (Dink) Hardman of Houston; and Harold Hardman and wife, Grace, of Richland Springs; a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Louie Hardman, Frank (Soap) Hardman and R.C. Hardman; as well as two infant sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 25, 2008, and were under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home in Brownwood.

Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Harkey, Dorothy Elizabeth

Dorothy Elizabeth Kane Harkey, 94, of San Saba, passed from this life on the morning of March 20, 2012, at the Scott & White Hospital in Llano, following complications from the fracture of her ankle this January.

Dorothy's immediate survivors include her nephew, James B. Oates and his wife, Ann, of Plano; a step-grandson, several great-great nieces and nephews and their descendants, and her church family. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Orel (O. J.) Harkey, her step-son, John Harkey, her father, Robert Kane, her mother and step-father, Margaret Elizabeth DeHart and James DeHart, her beloved sister, Bernadette Kane Oates, and her brother-in-law, John B. Oates, Jr.

Dorothy was born in Jamestown, New York, on February 17, 1918, the second child of Robert and Margaret Kane. She was a student at SMU in Dallas, when she met and married the love of her life, O. J. Harkey.

Following World War II, they eventually made their home in the Harkey family homestead in Harkeyville, where he operated his farming and plumbing businesses and she kept his books and tended to family needs. Both Dorothy and Orel found their church home at the First Presbyterian Church in San Saba, where they both faithfully involved themselves in leadership roles and singing in the choir; she being a long-time Sunday school teacher, Circle member, and eventually an Elder. Sharing their love has been our blessing and they are sorely missed.

A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, in the First Presbyterian Church, 207 East Commerce Street, in San Saba, by Rev. Drew Harrison, Pastor. Public viewing was at 10:00 a.m. with interment at 1:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service.

Honorary pallbearers include David Behrens, Tommy Behrens, Bill Hardy, Randal Hawkins, Joe Miller, Dick Miller, Clarence Mosby, Tom Murray, Johnnie Oswald, Pat Reagan, Jr., Bill Sloan, Damon Sloan, Jeff Sloan, Jack Taylor, and David Williams. Memorials in lieu of flowers should be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 967, San Saba, TX 76877. Funeral services were managed by the Blaylock Funeral Home.

Harlow, James Dale

James "Dale" Harlow, age 88 of Brownwood, Texas, passed away peacefully in Plano, Texas, Friday, November 11, 2011 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Simpson officiating. Interment followed at Locker Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, November 14, 2011 at Heartland Funeral Home.Dale Harlow was born August 26, 1923 in Valley Springs, Texas and was one of 8 children born of the late Charles and Eva Harlow of Llano.

He married Dorothy Jewel Henry of Mason, Texas on April 7, 1945 and together they had 6 children.

Dale attended Butler University in Indiana. He honorably served as a pilot and aircraft electrician in the United States Air Force from August 1945 until March 1947. He received the Army of Occupation Medal. After leaving the Air Force, Dale and his growing family moved to Richland Springs where he began a long career as a Texas rancher. While living in Richland Springs, Dale served as a respected member of the Richland Springs school board. He also operated a movie theatre in downtown Richland Springs where he charged $0.10 for admission. In 1969, Dale moved his family to Brownwood and continued his career in ranching and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his golden years, Dale loved listening to old time country music, taking care of his many animals and enjoying life. There was never a race that he felt he could not win and he spent his entire life searching for the next big venture. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eva Harlow; brothers, Nolan, Clinton, M.C., and Edsel Harlow; sister, Berneice Kuykendall and his granddaughter, Joy Harlow.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy, his beloved children, William L. "Bill" Harlow and wife, Ann of Richland Springs;Gary D. Harlow and Eva Vance of San Antonio; James E. Harlow of Stephenville; Nancy K. Harlow of Mesquite; Amy HarlowMorrison and husband, Chris of Frisco; and Bryan Lee Harlow of The Colony; brothers: Tilmon Harlow and wife, Sylvia of Llano and Carlos Harlow and wife, Shirley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 12 treasured grandchildren, Dena Peters and her husband, Wesley; Bethany Seider and her husband, Ashley; Michael Harlow, Chad Harlow and his wife, Carrie, Jeremy Harlow and his wife, Marie, Jocelyn Keeney, Tanner Harlow, Christopher Matthews and his wife, Dee; Regan Ricci, Makenna and Irelyn Morrison, and Madeline Harlow. In addition, his great grandchildren, Gatlin and Guthrie Peters; Karissa and Karah Seider, Penny and Bill Harlow; Brinkley and Kamden Harlow; Sierra; Branson and Carson Keeney; Cody, Dylan and Scarlett Matthews and Dax Walker, as well as countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him.

Harrell, Marie

Marie Harrell died November 19, 2008 in Abilene. Visitation was on Friday, November 21, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange in Abilene, Texas. Memorial service was held Saturday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m. at North's Funeral Home with burial following at the Chappel Cemetery in Chappel, Texas at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Tim Temple officiated the services.

Marie was born May 29, 1920 in San Saba, Texas to Z.T. and Ella Mae Sullivan. She married Joab B. Harrell, Jr. on July 28, 1940 in Lampasas, Texas. They lived in Austin, Texas while J.B. completed college at the University of Texas and eventually moved to Breckenridge where they lived until moving to Abilene in 1957. Marie was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Abilene Bible Church where she volunteered for many years with the Printed Page Ministry.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Mae Sullivan; father, Z.T.

Sullivan; sisters, Billy Moore and Irene Ellis; and brother, Clofus Z.

Sullivan.

Marie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, J.B. Harrell, Jr.; son, Ron and his wife Ronna Harrell of Abilene; daughter Debbie Evans of Dallas; grandchildren, Lezli Harrell of Austin; Jason Harrell of Dallas; Abby Evans and Katy Evans, both of Dallas; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Henry Harrell.

Marie was a fine Christian woman and a faithful prayer warrior. She enjoyed hiking and horseback riding in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. She also loved watching and photographing wildlife and birds. She has left many fond memories for her family and friends to cherish. She was beloved by many and will be greatly missed.

Hibler, Casey Jones

Casey Jones Hibler, Jr, 64, of Spring Creek, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Scott and White in Temple. Casey was born September 5, 1944 in Spring Creek, Texas, the son of Casey Jones Hibler, Sr. and Willie Bell Duey Hibler. On January 26, 1967 Casey Jones Hibler, Jr. and Frances Brown were married in Blaine, Tennessee. He worked as a Rancher. Casey was a member of the Spring Creek Church of Christ.

Casey is survived by his wife, Frances Hibler of Spring Creek; his son, Casey Hibler, III and his wife, Stephanie of Buda; his daughters, Sonya Ellis and her husband, Brad of Troy; Lisa Owen and her husband, Sam of Flower Mound; his grandchildren, Brittany Ellis; Carter Owen; Cohen Rhynn Owen; Kyla Hibler; Casey Jones Hibler, IV; his brothers, Dwayne Hibler and his wife, Laverne of Blaine, Tennessee; Dolan Hibler and his wife, Kathi of Hillsboro, Oregon; his sister, Maxine Robbins and her husband, Galen of Richland Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Casey is preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Creek Church of Christ with Rev. Casey Clements officiating. Interment followed at Neal Cemetery in Spring Creek.
